Fall 2026 Internship Program

College credit • Remote-friendly (Based in Phoenix, AZ) • Unpaid

Watch Women Play (WWP) is a women's sports discovery brand helping fans find, follow, and show up for women's sports across the WNBA, NWSL, PWHL, AUSL, and more. Through our newsletter (The Playbook), social channels, Play5™ daily puzzle, and community partnerships, we turn casual interest into lifelong fandom.

We are hiring for three credit-bearing internships for the Fall 2026 semester. These are unpaid roles designed to be completed for academic credit, with defined learning outcomes, a named supervisor, and real, portfolio-ready deliverables. All roles are remote-friendly with occasional Phoenix-area event attendance.

Expected commitment is 8–10 hours per week, flexible around your class schedule.

1. Journalism & Storytelling Intern (1-2)

Topics: College women's sports, NWSL (soccer), and PWHL (hockey)

What you'll do

•     Write 1–2 short stories per week for The Playbook newsletter & LinkedIn built around surprising or under-covered facts, female athletes, or business news in women’s sports.

•     Cover college women's sports plus the NWSL and PWHL seasons as they unfold.

•     Attend 2-3 live women's sports events (we’ll cover your tickets) and write a first-person story about each experience.

Signature projects

Brand Audits: Analyze the positioning and voice of 3–4 select women's sports organizations.

Front Office Deep Dive: Research and write on the front office of one team or league.

Community Story: Report a story on two local sports-related community groups

What you'll gain

•     A portfolio of published clips across newsletter and feature formats.

•     One-on-one editorial mentorship and a distinctive, resume-ready beat.

•     Live event access and reporting experience.

Learning outcomes

Digital sports journalism, brand and organizational analysis, source verification, audience-first writing, and live event reporting.

2. Community Partnerships & Programming Intern

Topics: Partnership pipeline, events, and community programming

What you'll do

•     Support WWP's active partnership pipeline (local sports bars, venues, and community orgs) with research, outreach drafts, and follow-up tracking.

•     Build and maintain a prospect list of Phoenix-area women's-sports-adjacent organizations and community groups.

•     Support community programming and event logistics, including surveys, sign-ups, and day-of coordination.

Signature projects

•     Plan a fundraising event: Draft a WWP event from end-to-end against a defined goal (for example, a target number of new email sign-ups or a net fundraising figure), from concept and budget through run-of-show and recap.

•     Build a Sponsorship Pitch deck:  Create a proposal for a local company to sponsor the drafted event.

What you'll gain

•     Hands-on event production and partnership/business-development experience.

•     Exposure to nonprofit programming and community-building.

•     A fundraising event you planned and can point to as your own.

Learning outcomes

Event management, partnership development, nonprofit operations, budgeting, and stakeholder communication.

3. Social Media & Design Intern (1-2)

Focus: Social storytelling and audience growth (Especially around NWSL &PWHL)

What you'll do

•     Create social content tied to specific topics and moments in women's sports.

•     Support promotion of Play5™, our daily women's sports word puzzle and the growth of our email list.

•     Help produce content for social media including graphics, short-form videos, and fan interaction.

•     Track engagement metrics and report on what's working and why.

•     Partner with other interns to turn stories and events into social-ready content.

Signature project

•     Social storytelling series: Design and run a multi-post content series around a chosen theme in women's sports (for example, an NWSL or PWHL storyline), then measure and present its results.

What you'll gain

•     Real social strategy and content-creation experience for a growing brand.

•     Analytics literacy and measurable growth results to show employers.

•     Cross-platform storytelling skills across short-form video and graphics.

Learning outcomes

Social media strategy, content creation, analytics and reporting, brand voice, and cross-platform storytelling.

All three positions are unpaid and are intended to be taken for academic credit. Positions are remote and do not have to be local to the Phoenix, Arizona area.
