The WNBA was created by the National Basketball Association in 1997. The league is divided into two conferences: the Eastern and Western. There are currently 13 teams, with new expansion teams scheduled to join the WNBA: Portland Fire (2026), Toronto Tempo (2026), Cleveland (2028), Detroit (2029), and Philadelphia (2030).
